Totally, utterly horrific - and yet world leaders are letting this continue.

Now I'm living on the other side of the Tasman, I'm fascinated by the differences (and similarities). It's election season, and I was shocked to learn 3+ years in jail removes your voting rights in Aus.

Then I remembered it's the same at home, and what's more, National wants to make it worse.
Voting isn’t a privilege, it’s a right. You don’t lose your humanity at the prison gate. This govt wants to silence the voices it locks up, mostly Māori. If they can take voting rights this easily, whose rights are next?

hello!! I know everyone is busy/the news remains bad, but if I may distract for a moment? There's a man named Ander Louis from the Yarra Valley whose sincere passion project is translating War & Peace into Bogan Australian. He's done Books 1 & 2. This is not a spoof. www.amazon.com/dp/108730656...

How come “shrinking government” always involves taking away school lunches and building 3,000 more prisons.

One of the first things I worked on @actionaidaustralia.bsky.social was backing women garment workers to call for fair pay and safe conditions. Since the pandemic, 4,500 workers who make clothes for Nike have been trying to claim US$2m in stolen wages - can you help? cleanclothes.org/campaigns/fl...
FLA: Stop justifying wage theft and retaliation
There is no fair labour with wage theft and retaliation. Write to the Fair Labour Association in solidarity with the Hong Seng and Violet Apparel workers.

Leaders in the Pacific are tiring of Australia's lipservice on stopping climate change, while palming off urgent requests to tell us all when the Australian Government will stop approving new coal mines.

We are devastated to learn that a doctor at Al-Awda Hospital in north Gaza, run by ActionAid’s partner Al-Awda, has been killed by Israeli forces. The staff member was shot on his way to work at the hospital and died from his injuries, despite the efforts of colleagues who tried to save him. 1/4

ANZ, Westpac, NAB/BNZ and Commbank/ASB are fuelling the climate crisis: giving companies like Woodside and Santos the money they need for climate-wrecking expansion in the Global South. There's no room for new fossil fuels. It's time for these banks to tighten up their lending.
❗ NEW REPORT ❗ Australia’s Big Four banks are not only fuelling the #ClimateCrisis, they’re also fuelling a #WomensRights crisis.

It's time for the banks to rule out all forms of financing to fossil fuel companies!

The plan has just one policy in the transport space - the Government's target of 10,000 EV chargers.

This policy will reduce annual transport emissions by 0.016%.
New: The Government’s new climate plan relies on unproven methane-busting technology and partially disproven carbon capture schemes for as much as half of its promised greenhouse emissions reductions.

Govt's final climate plan relies on unproven technology
Policies included in the new climate plan actually cut emissions by less than in the draft plan released months ago, Marc Daalder reports
