i think this is the most compelling thing in Mahmood Mamdani’s vision about postcolonial politics. he explicitly disavows any idea of demanding people humble themselves about historical traumas, but he wants to encourage everyone to see themselves as _survivors_ of history, and we all work w/in it.

If they had the capacity to do this, it would be really bad. And they probably will try to do a couple of high profile examples to make you think they *do* have the capacity. But like a lot of stuff, this is a memo designed to get you to voluntarily stop doing stuff they don’t like.

I often criticize the Dem leadership, but this one strikes me as a good approach.

Because, once again: the first violence the authoritarian right commits is against fact, truth, history, meaning, language, science, and this version keeps committing it. They bring liberation from reality, though maybe disinhibition is a better word.

IT'S. NOT. A. BITTER. DISPUTE.

It's a one-sided authoritarian assault on a private institution. What are we doing here, and what is journalism, anyway?
Looks like Harvard could potentially cave to the Trump administration.

And of course, race and diversity would be the first casualty.

Yeah, I don't care if you identify as a liberal or a moderate, if you actually care about good government, transit and housing then there is no good reason to rank Cuomo or not rank Mamdani. I say this despite having reservations about parts of Mamdani's platform!
In national elections, liberals like me ask leftists to be coalition partners — hold their noses and vote for a candidate they don't love to beat someone truly terrible.

In New York, the shoe is on the other foot. And we should be clear that we're willing to do what we ask of our partners.

If Democrats didn't want people to resist fascism with violence, they should've gotten off their ass and resisted it with everything in their power on Biden's Day 1.

You can't Do Nothing and let fascists consolidate power and tell citizens to just lay down and take it. Dem shit isn't working.

And our student council person asked him (and everyone) to sign a birthday card for our dorm’s janitor

And he threw a tantrum and wrote an op-ed about not socializing with “the help.”
