I've never seen a population more united. If people can hold onto that unity, if people can accept that different people will have different ways of confronting fascism, if we can remind NGOs and orgs that they can join but not control the resistance, then, well, people here will write history.

i think this is the most compelling thing in Mahmood Mamdani’s vision about postcolonial politics. he explicitly disavows any idea of demanding people humble themselves about historical traumas, but he wants to encourage everyone to see themselves as _survivors_ of history, and we all work w/in it.

Because, once again: the first violence the authoritarian right commits is against fact, truth, history, meaning, language, science, and this version keeps committing it. They bring liberation from reality, though maybe disinhibition is a better word.

I know the media portrays caring about Gaza as a "woke" youth issue but my parents bring it up everytime I see them (which is a lot) & they call it genocide
