I'm out of DC and a 65-ish black guy saw my DC plates and commented on the national guard presence. He told me he was a cop for 25 years and very pro law enforcement, but hates what they're doing with the National Guard in DC. Really hasn't hit elite media how broadly unpopular this stuff is.

That development escalates the stakes of the district court's inappropriate exercise of jurisdiction and the risks that the district court may force the government to disclose sensitive national security and operational security concerns or face significant penalties from the court. The Government cannot-and will not—be forced to answer sensitive questions of national security and foreign relations in a rushed posture without orderly briefing and a showing that these questions are somehow material to a live issue. Answering them, especially on the proposed timetable, is flagrantly improper and presents grave risks to the conduct of the Government in areas wholly unsuited to micromanagement supervision by a district court judge. The district court's hasty public inquiry into these sensitive national security matters-with no contemplated protections against disclosure of operational details— underscores the urgency of immediate relief from this Court, including an immediate administrative stay that would allow - 2 - further briefing to unfold in an orderly and appropriate manner and prevents the district court from further efforts to interfere with President Trump's core Article II authorities, including the conduct of foreign policy. This Court should also immediately reassign this case to another district court judge given the highly unusual and improper procedures—e.g. certification of a class action involving members of a designated foreign terrorist organization in less than 18 hours with no discovery and no briefing from the Government—that have been employed in the district court proceedings to date.

The way authority is used in this brief is utterly bananas—citing out of circuit precedent without the least explanation of context, reaching back to an 1850 opinion by Justice Taney (which held the president can’t annex territory unilaterally) for a banal observation that he’s commander in chief.

A US-born citizen was walking near Chicago in January. ICE snatched him off the street, handcuffed him, threw into a van. His wallet, which contained his ID, was confiscated. He was detained for 10 hours before being released without a record of what occurred.

The officers drove Julio and others around for more than an hour before bringing him to an ICE processing center, where he remained, still handcuffed, for several more hours. All the while, Julio had a wallet containing identification that ICE had confiscated. The officers never showed Julio a warrant, and they did not ask him any questions to ascertain whether he was a noncitizen or a flight risk. After about 10 hours, ICE officers reviewed the contents of Julio’s wallet, realized he was a U.S. citizen, and released him with no money and no paperwork."

Hi, I'm the guy who used to oversee the federal government's agency IT telecommunications contracts. This is extremely bad. There is absolutely no need for this. Not only is it a huge security exposure, but the simplest explanation for this is that it is meant to be a security exposure.

#RIP John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway who passed away on Monday at at the age of 105. Hemingway was the last surviving Battle of Britain pilot. Born in Dublin in 1919, Hemingway joined the RAF in 1938. He flew Hawker Hurricanes during WWII and survived being shot down four times.

Wild stuff going on in Texas right now. Amid an incredibly contentious Republican fight for Speaker of the House, the Texas GOP has passed a resolution vowing to censure anyone who doesn’t vote for party leaders’ preferred candidate — which will bar any censured lawmaker from running in primaries.
