I am a postgraduate political science doctoral researcher with a dual focus on political economy and political theory. I’ll be mostly sharing insights from my work in these two areas, discussions on global capitalism, the climate crisis, and Marxism political theory.

Some more "material"context to support this great article:

Zär’a Ya‘əqob’s Hatäta wasn’t born in a vacuum—it emerged from a crumbling tributary empire, fractured land tenure, and Oromo expansions. A rationalist ethics forged amid social upheaval.
Should Ethiopian philosophy be practised from a universalist perspective – therefore taking Ethiopian philosophy to be part of the universal quest for wisdom – or from an Africanist perspective that sees Ethiopian philosophy as a means of cultural reaffirmation? buff.ly/qJb6kVb

Some comments: 📍This article offers an insightful analysis of Marx’s materialism and its impact on the history of political thought. Grounding political thinkers within their material contexts is crucial, and the discussion of historical materialism’s premises is key to that effort. 🧵

One of the best decisions in this article was removing the literature review to focus entirely on the strata of relationships that structure the dynamics between capital and the state—explaining the ontology of inter-state systems.

🏓Behind the U.S. plan to leave NATO or the UN lies a scheme by military-industrial and tech oligarchs to turn these institutions into "privatized premium" security services, where other countries subscribe and pay to be included.

Jobs, jobs, jobs... 🇳🇿faces not just a recession but an unprecedented downturn, with data slowly revealing the full extent. In the post-pandemic era, a low/no-growth, low-profitability paradigm dominates. Job growth & employment are now keys shaping public perceptions of politics.
Weekly jobs data 🧵
I've been cautious about being too doomy on the weekly jobs trends, but this is starting to look *bad*.
The seasonal pick-up seems to be absent so far (as at mid-Oct). We usually add 20,000 jobs between June & October, but we've *lost* thousands this year [1/n]
