Indeed. Government's proposed ILR changes are wrong morally & politically - that is the main point.

But from purely *economic* perspective, they're likely to be self-defeating - the migrants most likely to be deterred from coming/staying are high-skilled/high-paid, because they have other options!
Huh. If you say you’ll mess with indefinite leave to remain rules it turns out talented migrant workers start looking at their other options. This could never have been predicted!

A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.

Genuinely think everyone in the Anglosphere and everyone in the States who has escaped this method should be aware of this, just as a reminder that a lot of the time, people's weird reading of your posts aren't their fault, they are the victims of a terrible way of teaching kids to read!

Essentially every politician has a problem they dream of going into politics to fix, whether small or massive. And mostly what marks out good governments is they accept they need to solve the problems in front of them, not the ones they hoped to fix.

It’s so funny that half of Bluesky was like “yes we must kill all the CEOs and then dance in their blood” but Jesse Singal’s mere presence is what led to the dumb company actually having to be like “let’s discuss moderation”
