This might be a good time to introduce Bindi 😍
A warning about posts from “mental health advocates” and even therapists that spread intended or unintended disinformation. It’s usually about disorders and neurodivergence/ASD. Usually goes like “You might be ___ if you ___.” Symptoms and behavior overlap even in “normal” behavior.

When your therapist friend says that her partner likes to rewatch movies because she’s OCD and my friend say she doesn’t rewatch movies because of her ADHD. And me just thinking they are just two different people, each with their own idiosyncrasies. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Teaching from The Undocumented Americans tomorrow. Everyone is talking about numbers rn and economic impact, but sometimes you really need to read the stories of migrants in this country—no heroics, just everyday ppl trying to live with some dignity and in community with each other

I’ve heard on various platforms that the term Latinx is made up in some liberal university department. No, the X in latinx and other words was used in Mexico for over a decade as a place holder for a or o, making some words gender neutral and not necessarily for politically correct reasons.

Every so often I feel like a trainee all over again. That happens when I’m exposed to a new therapeutic theory and technique that I want to start implementing because it just makes sense.

This beautiful baby needs more ❤️’s!!
They want us to compete like it's a dog-eat-dog world, but Cardi just wants to nap and share snacks. Maybe we've been lied to about what’s natural. 😴🐕

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.

Here you go, Psychoanalytic/Paychodynamic friends - the starter pack you’ve been searching for! 🥰
This group still has scores of slots left. If you’re posting about depth psychology, psychoanalysis, Freud, Jung, Object Relations, Relational Psychoanalysis, etc. drop me a line and I’ll include you in the starter pack.

My friend shared with me a post on the importance of connecting with/feeling emotions. I personally think that before focusing on developing tolerance of distress emotions, it’s very important to develop thought/cognitive diffusion skills, starting with the less persistent and distressing ones.

Acknowledging and tending to bodily pain and illness confronts you with feelings of vulnerability as well as the need of support, understanding and acceptance from others; everything the self-sufficient individual has avoided through their life.

Taking care of your body is taking care of your mind. How we take care (or don’t take care) of our bodies is directly connected to early relationships, emotional schemas and neurotic defenses.

Advice to the younger therapist:

1. Manage your blood pressure
2. Reduce/eliminate sugar & other foods that trigger inflammation
3. Drink lots of water
4. Move your body 20 minutes per day
5. Be mindful of bodily pain and inflammation, don’t just tolerate it - might be sign of autoimmune diseases

This is still my advice: Become a writer anyway. Fuck it, do it, it won't save you, but it's still a beautiful dream to write novels and short stories and poems and mingle with other dreamers and make art and laugh in the face of death. And writing is constant death. Live más.
