Artist who did graphic design for money, now making art again and bringing in no money. Old. Left-liberal politics, amateur telescope maker, pretty good cook. With no idea how this is all going to turn out, but deeply frightened for my grandkids.

Fair notice: I do not follow back accounts that follow thousands, have hundreds of “follow backs,” but no posts or replies.
Is there a reason why moderation couldn’t start with gentle warnings well before they get to account suspensions? On reflection I don’t like even allusive threat language (e.g. the Cash lyrics) but seems like we’re getting death-penalty-for-shoplifting kind of attitude here.

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

I don’t disagree but some humans had to think up that narrative and prompt the “AI” to create it, and it sure wasn’t very bright or creative humans. I mean you could just put up a still image of a coke bottle by a Christmas tree for 60 seconds and it would be just as likely to spur more Coke sales.
Man, this generative ad Coca-Cola dropped is really bad. Not because they used AI, per se, but because it looks like garbage made on last year’s tools despite, apparently, requiring more than 70,000 prompts. No wonder Sora is such a hit if that empty nonsense is what agencies are still producing.

Liberal media finance, even more so than liberal political campaigns, must needs be crowd-funded.
Given that the root of our problems is the *existence* of billionaires, I doubt even one of them wants to fund media that might make that clear to people.

Snowed in (snow tires not yet on car)—not venturing down my steep driveway with 8-9" of heavy snow on it. Could get annoying if I run out of beer.
November 12, 2025 at 2:36 PM
Having cleared a path to the barn (through about 6-7" of wet snow) and subsequently carting in a load of firewood, I’m feeling a little better about it. And it will melt within a day or two. But JFC it’s not time yet, dammit! (it is, as I post this, still snowing.)
I am so extremely not ready for this

Adobe refugee here: this looks pretty cool, especially the $0.0 price; it’s hard not to wonder how much one may need to access “premium” features but I certainly will not be forking out for the “AI” stuff.

Lucian Truscott has a calmer take on the Dem’s shutdown fold, and I’m almost convinced.

This is insane. WTF, Bluesky?
In a rare case of Substack notes usefulness, I just learned that Sarah Kendzior (author of They Knew and a brilliant writer) got bounced from Bluesky. What the hell? new @sarahkendzior.bsky.social

This is ridiculous. JFC, Bluesky, do you want to drive us all away at this particular moment in time?

I don’t know what’s more idiotic, Trump believing the fake story, or anyone calling that story “satirical.”

Self-branding it as satire is just cover for printing a stupid lie.
With a “WOW!,” President Trump posts a claim about DOGE and “royalties linked to Obamacare” that originated on a satirical website. That site’s own About section reads: “Everything on this website is fiction… If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.”

I’ve never been one to overestimate the judgement and taste of average Americans, but it does shock me that so many of them apparently think this is fine
Trump's White House: the walls of this classic Federalist style building have now had polyurethane ornaments manufactured in Taiwan and spray painted with gold pain glued to them. The appearance is repulsive, gaudy & entirely to Trump's taste. These ornaments are available at Home Depot, BTW

Reposting this to mention the best thing I’ve started doing regularly: make stock, freeze it, use it all the time to add flavor without fat or salt. Save up scraps, boil ’em for a 2-3 hours. Strain out solids and boil some more to concentrate, freeze in ice cube trays.

To put this in scale, Elon Musk's salary from Tesla alone could fund the SNAP program for the entire country into 2034.

So if I understand this correctly, Elon can’t be bothered to motivate others to make his vaporware a reality without a $1 trillion carrot. Isn’t that basically an admission that he’s a lazy toddler?
