NEW Analysis of beads from Iron Age Hama, Syria finds they were produced using Baltic amber sourced over 3000km away, highlighting the city’s importance in ancient long-distance exchange networks and indicating a desire for ‘exotic’ goods in Mesopotamia.

Pedagogy question:

You're in an intro Latin class and your prof puts you into study groups. With that group, you'll 'compete' against other groups to earn the most points on quizzes/exams throughout the class.

But what would you consider a worthy reward?

It is often pustulated that the plague of Thebes in Oidipous Tyrannos was based partly on a historical plague, possibly the plague of Athens. Examination of the wording of symptoms and remedies show similarities, leading many to think that Sophokles engaged in plaguerism.

I hear this a lot, especially from folks who view my "History And Film" course as "unserious" or "easy," & find it really frustrating. ~50 million people have seen Gladiator; ~10 mill+ have played AC: Odyssey; 2 mill read Miller's Song of Achilles. Even Beard's SPQR seems to have been read far less.

Is it unrealistic to try and hit 50k followers on TikTok by the end of the year? I am only 1.5k away.

If you haven’t followed me, please do. If you have friends or students you think would like Ancient Greek history, art, and archaeology TikToks, please suggest me!

Israel has crossed so many red lines, but intentionally bombing a refugee camp feels indefensible. Is there any chance they'll be held accountable?

They made me cut it because the source didn't want to use their name, but a Smithsonian official told me they didn't want these monuments because "museums aren't America's attic for its racist shit."
