This encapsulates the insanity of American late stage kleptocapitalism. And it's been so normalized that this doesn't even seem that weird. Of course you have to pay to file. Doesn't everyone, everywhere?

Pretty much sums it up.
Trump and his GOP allies are desperately trying to starve 40 million people as hostages so that Dems will let them double everyone's health insurance costs.

All so they can pay for tax cuts for billionaires.

It’s a cliché at this point how eerily relevant Orwell’s dystopian fiction is to our era, but don’t sleep on his (humblingly voluminous!) essays and columns.

I'm just amazed the Bezos Post reported this.

This is amusing & it’s also to his credit that he didn’t trot out these old high school yearbook photos of his membership in the Judaic Culture club to try to respond to the attack from Cuomo etc.
Sourced from a friend of a friend who apparently went to the same high school as Zohran Mamdani: he was in his high school's Judaic Cultural Society. In case some people were concerned that his outreach to the jewish community was just temporary pandering, he's been an ally for decades!

He's a pedo and grossly corrupt, but this is obnoxiously performative for just a few items. There are dozens of other way more serious contenders for "nothing should be named after that asshole."

Top of my list: Lord Kitchener, inventor of the concentration camp.

Pretty much sums it up. Sometimes, the details aren't complicated.
Shutdown is very uncomplicated. Trump & Republicans will starve 42 million Americans unless Democrats agree to kick 20+ million Americans off of any healthcare insurance. Kicker is that Republicans intend to do both, regardless of what Democrats choose to do at this particular hostage situation.

The forgotten genocide.
“Individuals on the ground sent a message that reached us Monday morning that 1,200 were dead,” Nathaniel Raymond, the lab’s executive director, said. “By that evening, they said 10,000. By Tuesday, we couldn’t reach them anymore. We assume our ground contacts are dead.”
