“Mates channel MacGyver in rescue of galah trapped in power pole in WA’s north” www.abc.net.au/news/2025-10...

Impressive that ABC News managed to get wrong both MacGyer’s decade and the actor who played him.
Mates take matters into their own hands to rescue trapped galah
A lifetime sailor says his experience problem-solving with limited resources helped figure out how to rescue a galah trapped in an 8-metre-tall power pole.

This is all true and it's one of the reasons why I love and also hate taxonomy.

There are MULTIPLE BITS of taxonomy that are basically slapping a label on a collective shrug.

Because we just gotta put things into BUCKETS. But nature? Abhors a bucket.
It will not surprise any of you to learn, I think a lot about taxonomy.

The current system we use (Linnean classification) groups animals by common descent, and uses similarity of structures and the fossil record to try and do so accurately. "How closely related are these, in evolutionary terms?"
It is wild to think that these two animals are as distant from each other in evolution as, say, Bears and Hyenas.

The fact it finished early is irrelevant. In fact, slow over rates can contribute to that. It means captains don’t have to find as many overs and their bowlers stay fresher.

Seems Fairfax papers are now reduced to a platform for Liberals to smear community independents without fact-checking or scrutiny.

If there's a more pointless waste of space in federal parliament than Paul Fletcher I can't think of them.

I love this story 👇😁
One of my favorite moments ever in a theater was a benefit screening of STAR WARS a TV station I worked for did back in 1993.

We had to do it early on a Saturday morning, as all the ticket and concession proceeds would go to the Juvenile Diabetes foundation, and this made accounting easier.
