Guy who stopped opinion writers at the paper he owns from posting their opinions doesn't understand why America doesn't trust the media.

Somehow not the Onion

Six months before Ghost in the Shell's Japanese and UK premiere in Nov/Dec 1995, Anime FX published a lavish feature on the movie that would further stoke the burning flame of international anime fandom.

They also provide some handy BBS addys to gush your excitement on the early WWW.

How did you pick your username?

I saw the music video for Christiansands by Tricky as a kid, got obsessed with his music, that song was from the album “Pre-Millennium Tension”, came out before y2k. Kinda self explanatory but everything after has been post-millennium tension.
How did you pick your username?

I used to switch usernames with every fandom I dove hard into before finally coming to the conclusion that there was nothing more unique than my own name, which was representative of everything I liked
How did you pick your username?

This is the second handle I have basically ever used. My old AOL screenname was going away so I needed to find something else. I had a dream where I had lunch with a famous author and he ordered a Waldorf salad, but with pears.

Fair, but this is where Bluesky's moderation tools and lack of a controlling algorithm and ethos of "don't engage, just block" shine. The dudebros and fascism apologists are in fact already here, they're just finding it much harder to get traction. They get sent to the cornfield almost immediately.
I'm always careful with the words "it's a nicer place to be": Threads, in its first weeks, was honestly a super nice place to be; Mastodon has many instances that have been great places to be for very long. But everything goes downhill once the dudebros and fascism apologists decide to join

I miss talking with people on the internet and feeling like I was in a conversation I wanted to take part in.

that era was so pure, more than any other platform I had so much fun connecting with people on there. made some people on there mix cds and mailed em out across the world and vice versa, still have some of them to this day

both of these, growing up and being into anime when it wasn’t cool to be, seeing and hearing music like this by black artists inside one of my favorite shows meant so much to me (still does tbh)

A cool thing is that New York has not won a basketball championship since 1973. It was the WNBA team who broke that streak. Not the Nets. Not the Knicks.
