The judges said I "added colour and depth to a major incident on campus", "expertly and empathetically weaving voices together, informing and situating the reader at the incident."

😊 Chuffed.

hello! inspired by what I'm calling the recent "mass-twitter-exodus", I'm doing a project on digital communities for uni. I'm wondering, for those who've been on Bluesky a while, how has it changed?

Earlier this year @rogerhallam.com was sentenced to FIVE YEARS IN PRISON (sorry for shouting) for attending a Zoom call in which he talked about the climate crisis & need for non violent direct protest. That was enough for a conspiracy conviction under draconian new laws.
As carbon emissions reach all-time highs & global temps exceed 1.5°C politicians are passing new laws that criminalise climate protest. This @racheldonald.bsky.social podcast with Pasha Bell is vitally important.

Having read some replies here, I thought I'd share this recent article. It suggests that the radical tactics of Just Stop Oil increase support for moderate climate groups, even if JSO are unpopular. Love them or hate them, they are helping the climate movement 💚

Hi all 😊 I wrote an article talking to George Simonson, the Just Stop Oil activist who threw paint over my university in Exeter one year ago. He's currently in prison for another action, despite JSO's demand having been met. Check it out! exepose.com/2024/10/25/j...

Be patient. We didn't get here overnight. We won't get out of it overnight.

Be resolute. Do not expect quick, massive victories. Progress will often be measured in inches. This isn't just about political change. It's sea change.

Be relentless. We won't win every battle. Do not let it deter you.

A bleak twist on an empowering quote! History shows that when ordinary people get organised and disrupt the status quo, the impossible can happen.

Intersectional activist here, excited to connect with others! Started off in the climate movement, now also fighting for a free Palestine.

Joining the dots on how all systems of oppression are interconnected, and that to achieve climate justice we MUST dismantle our society's colonial foundations.

Depression, anger, and anxiety in response to the current world make much more sense to me than if you're happy to carry on with how things are.

I had a conversation with somebody today who said "I don't think I'm passionate or knowledgeable enough to be an activist."

They then told me about the hours they've spent passionately defending women's reproductive rights in comment sections over the last few days.

Hurricanes rampage the US. Floods are killing hundreds of people in Spain. The new Labour government has met Just Stop Oil's demand of no new oil licences, and yet George along with many other activists are in prison for holding the government to account.

Why is the UK state criminalising non-violent protest? Because direct action works, and they know it.
