hello! inspired by what I'm calling the recent "mass-twitter-exodus", I'm doing a project on digital communities for uni. I'm wondering, for those who've been on Bluesky a while, how has it changed?

Earlier this year @rogerhallam.com was sentenced to FIVE YEARS IN PRISON (sorry for shouting) for attending a Zoom call in which he talked about the climate crisis & need for non violent direct protest. That was enough for a conspiracy conviction under draconian new laws.

Having read some replies here, I thought I'd share this recent article. It suggests that the radical tactics of Just Stop Oil increase support for moderate climate groups, even if JSO are unpopular. Love them or hate them, they are helping the climate movement 💚

Depression, anger, and anxiety in response to the current world make much more sense to me than if you're happy to carry on with how things are.

I had a conversation with somebody today who said "I don't think I'm passionate or knowledgeable enough to be an activist."

They then told me about the hours they've spent passionately defending women's reproductive rights in comment sections over the last few days.

Hurricanes rampage the US. Floods are killing hundreds of people in Spain. The new Labour government has met Just Stop Oil's demand of no new oil licences, and yet George along with many other activists are in prison for holding the government to account.

Why is the UK state criminalising non-violent protest? Because direct action works, and they know it.
