History will judge this government very harshly for its cruel and inhumane treatment of asylum seekers.

Prince Andrew’s titles have been removed.

Good start — now let’s do the rest of them and abolish the monarchy.

Gah, this is the only time I've ever wished I could get a refund on a Kickstarter - it truly sickens me to have backed @playhawthorn.bsky.social and to see it still proudly flying AI-generated artwork everywhere 🤮 What a black stain on a brand new studio...

@bcmerchant.bsky.social - I'm really enjoying the book so far, but this one bit makes no sense if you pronounce the Welsh words correctly: "Lluydda" sounds like "Chloitha" 😅

I've been doing a pottery workshop the last few weeks to learn how to throw clay, and these are the survivors - pretty happy with how some of'em turned out!

Wish I could say I was shocked, but here's the Labour government constraining the right to peaceful protest again...

'You can protest but only according to our rules. The rules are: you're not allowed to use any of the tactics that make protest effective.'
NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

Labour’s plan for compulsory digital ID risks creating a more authoritarian state.

Under constant surveillance, we would have to pass through digital checkpoints just to live our daily lives — with even more barriers for minorities, migrants and the digitally excluded.

Every leftist knows fellow leftists are some of the most annoying people on the planet but there's a gigantic difference between being annoying and having institutional power. If you spend most of your energy punching left instead of right you simply do not have your priorities straight

So important to always be asking this question! When we know what we're striving for, then decisions can be weighed based on whether they take us closer-to or further-from our utopic visions!
what does your utopia look like?

The people of the country do have moral red lines & this “real politik” approach to Trump will come back to bite you 🔥🔥🔥
Zoe Gardiner, "The saddest thing I've heard about Trump's visit, is that he is going to get his golden carriage ride, but in private, because the great British public would have given him the rotten tomato treatment if he dared to show his face in public"

"Political violence" is a term that exists to suggest a moral distinction between "violence against politicians" and "violence by politicians" - so that one can be condemned while the other can be normalized. Obviously, no such distinction exists in reality: violence is violence.

Labour could have made the case for a humane immigration system that treats refugees with dignity and respect.

Instead, they have fanned the flames of racism and emboldened the far-right.

Labour Is Paving the Path to Fascism
As Labour embraces anti-migrant rhetoric, Jeremy Corbyn argues that the government is demonising vulnerable people to distract from its domestic failures.

I don't get how people don't realize that a technology that replaces junior and entry level positions in a field destroys that field.

There's no skipping steps. You have to be a junior before you can be a senior, and if you don't have senior people, you don't have a field.
Remember, kids: A real big goal of "AI" is to entirely sever capital from labor, and no, there will be no universal basic income, you can all just starve and die, thanks

AI is already taking jobs away from entry-level workers
Software and customer service are most at risk right now and could be the canary in the coal mine.

my former colleague wrote up a great summary of refutations to the common reasons to use GenAI / LLMs, and I have to say I agree with all of them.

even if certain aspects get addressed, like environmental impact by running local models, it still doesn't address any of the other issues.

To be clear on what they're proposing: human beings using water for drinking, washing, and growing crops will be rationed.

The AI datacenters will have all the water they can contaminate.
Some places will have to start rationing water - to enable AI slop.

"A data center like Meta’s, which was completed last year, typically guzzles around 500,000 gallons of water a day. New data centers [will] require millions of gallons of water a day"
