@bcmerchant.bsky.social - I'm really enjoying the book so far, but this one bit makes no sense if you pronounce the Welsh words correctly: "Lluydda" sounds like "Chloitha" 😅
Excerpt from Brian Merchant's Book - "Blood in the Machine" - which investigates the origin of the "Ludd" / "Luddite" name: "The word Uuyd in Welch [sic], signifies an army or camp; Lluydda, in the same language, is make war; and Lluyddar is a soldier" ...the pronunciation sounds completely different to the word "Ludd" as it's pronounced in English - it all only makes sense if you don't speak Welsh 🫣

I've been doing a pottery workshop the last few weeks to learn how to throw clay, and these are the survivors - pretty happy with how some of'em turned out!
A shallow clay bowl glazed in green, where the rim has baked a satisfyingly dark brown. This was originally much taller, but I fucked up and had to cut it down to hide the evidence... A taller bowl than the last where the edges are curved out slightly; glazed in a mix of green and brown, with a mottled texture where the two colours meet. Throwing rings are clearly visible on this one - particularly at the bottom. A clay bowl, glazed in green, about the same size as the last one but with a significantly cleaner and more confident shape to it. A small clay mug with a coppery-brown glaze; bigger at the bottom and curving in at the top, like a vase with a handle on the side, giving it a bit of a hobbity vibe.

So I asked my brother (the biggest camera nerd I know) about this critera, and got this response, if it's of any use to you?
Transcript from messsaging app: "so my camera does all of this - the fuji x-t5, but whilst the autofocus does have the eye tracking, its not up to sony standards. It would work and be probably mostly fine, but if they ever used the sony options, the autofocus is THAT much better they'd probably end up regretting not spending the extra! The sony a7 v is coming out soon, which could make used prices of some of the other sony options come down a notch. Its my only gripe moving from sony back to fuji. Autofocus. Sony is so good, it feels like cheating, haha"

Alas - I can't advise on that front; I've cobbled together a bonkers sit/stand Frankenstein from, like, 3 different desks over the years 😅 And let's not talk about the cardboard monstrosity I made myself when I first moved to London 🫣
