I’m not convinced by this type of reverse functionalist argument. I agree, you can’t deduce all forms of racism from economic determinants. But it seems odd to me to reject economic “reasons” as explanations for racist policies even in cases where they are explicitly stated as such, no?
Immigration restrictionists don’t want to just say “we’re doing it for racist reasons” so they feel compelled to make up economic reasons (this is from the new NSS) that only make sense if your underlying economic theories are terrible, and you end up being governed by morons.

Findet es die Mehrheit der Leute eigentlich normal, dass es bei Sachen wie Wohngeld-Anträge 12 Monate und länger dauert, bis sie bearbeitet werden? Gilt es als cool und retro, dass diese Ämter selbst in großen Ballungsräumen mit ausgedruckten Dokumenten in Aktenordnern hantieren?

Politik, so könnte man es soziologisch erklären, ist prinzipiell nie an wissenschaftl., sondern an politischen Kriterien interessiert. Es wäre dann interessant, herauszufinden, unter welchen Bedingungen eine Vergesellschaftungsweise entsteht, die den begründeten Anschein erweckt, es wäre nicht so.
Die FDP liefert also den Beleg dafür, dass es hier nicht um wissenschaftliche Kriterien ging.
Diese Aussage illustriert leider exakt das Problem, das @ndeitelhoff.bsky.social adressiert: Sie markiert einen parteipolitischen Besitzanspruch auf ein Förderverfahren, das eigentlich wissenschaftsgeleitet und wettbewerblich sein sollte. Ausgerechnet seitens der FDP.

Can’t help but feeling alienated by self-branded happy Marxism from the north, where they are ruled by like the second or third worst form of social democracy on the planet after maybe German and Anglo soc dems.
