Bringing it to 🦋 by request:

People hate their own art because it looks like they made it. They think if they get better, it will stop looking like they made it. A better person made it. But there's no level of skill beyond which you stop being you. You hate the most valuable thing about your art.

The older I get, the more likely it is that I will quit a bad series or movie mid-scene.

Life’s too short to waste watching terrible tv.

Friendly reminder that if art is how we decorate space, then music is how we decorate time.

Can't believe it's already time for a new @adventjs.itch.io! Last year I was thrilled to be among the artists for the 2023 calendar (on day 10). It's such a fun community project.

@vividfax.bsky.social and @mtrc.bsky.social are doing an amazing job bringing joy and wonder to creative coding.
We're less than 12 hours away from the launch of @adventjs.itch.io 2024!!! Our artists have once again blown us away with their creativity. Before we launch, I wanted to take a look back at last year’s calendar

99% of the advice people give for using Bluesky amounts to “don’t willingly have a terrible experience”, and the messed up thing is that peoples experience online has gotten so bad they legitimately need to be reminded of that

I sometimes think about how amazing it must have felt, being Bill Watterson, and saying no to every request and proposal to expand the Calvin & Hobbes IP to tv, movies, merch, you-name-it. To be in that position, in need of nothing more, and to just say no thanks.

We have got to stop acting like everybody is getting information in some sort of pure form and then making illogical decisions. Unrestrained algorithms and growth hacking are the largest scale ecological disaster in history and we are finally beginning to pay for it.
One lesson of the Information Age is that information does not solve the problem of human irrationality.
It's disheartening that in an age where knowledge has never been more accessible - the United States is about to be governed by an administration so primitive and ignorant as to believe that tariffs are good and that vaccines are bad.

So there's been a LOT of chatter about whether AI-generated poetry is distinguishable from human poetry😯😵‍💫🤨🫠

Yes, it definitely is!

For CHR 2024, we compared thousands of poems by GPT-4, 3.5, and humans, and we quantified the differences.

People who are new to submitting to conferences, or people who have been struggling to get in... please don't think using ChatGPT to generate your abstract will get you in.

It won't, they're generic and easy to spot, and therefore actively rejected.

Sam Altman is saying AGI is coming next year.

You just need to keep giving him money, then it's surely happening! It's inevitable! No, definitely! This time, the singularity is real! It will be your fault for not giving him enough money if eudaimonic utopia doesn't spontaneously burst out of him!

Social media feeling mildly accessible again for the first time in, what, eight years? Go figure.

I still can't promise I'll be terribly active here, but "not physically repulsed" is definitely a step in the right direction. Hoping we can be good neighbors and keep it this way? :)
