The author reads Pericles’ funeral oration almost perfectly backwards. Classicists understand the speech as a binding reaffirmation of the polis, a reminder that individual "freedom" is sustained only through obedience to law, mutual duty, and sacrifice for the common good. (1/5)
I've written about Pericles, Lincoln, and the decay of civic life. You're welcome. I know this is the content everyone wanted.

just saying stuff to an infinite and potentially hostile void sucks. we were meant to have the same argument with the same guy day after day and hate them more than anything and miss them if they don't post for a week

I got up and immediately went for a 10km ride and picked up some groceries after reading this. Felt better.
I just realized why I've been so on edge lately. I haven't been on my bike in over a week since the snowstorm. The city's failure to make active infrastructure usable has forced me into a car for every little thing. The lack of physical activity is really affecting my mood.

When transportation is car-centric, tourist spots will inevitably congest when you force tourists - who by definition don't start off with cars - to use cars to go anywhere and everywhere.

Giving players clear cues and full transparency in game mechanics is always a good thing. Players can't react to what they don't know, so giving them more information always helps them engage with whatever the game wants them to do.
The only acceptable parry system is one where there’s a clear pop up indicator of when you’re supposed to parry. Otherwise it’s like trying to play a golf game where you can’t see the swing meter. Bad game design
