The anthropogenic glacier collapse currently underway in the Alps has resulted in the disappearance of >1000 small glaciers! 😱🔥

Following the release of Swiss glacier loss numbers today, let me introduce you the now extinct Vadret da Triazza (Eastern Switzerland) ✝️

2000 | 2015 | 2023

Only 23 years shown here... ⏳
Will be entirely gone in less than 9 years! 🔥

- Mean glacier thickness: 15.1 m
- Mean thickness loss/yr: 2 m (2002-2024) but 4.5 m in 2022 and 2023! 😱

The #Glacier Loss Day is reached in Switzerland!
From now on all melt that occurs on glaciers until October is unsustainable. This tipping point has only been reached so early in the record-shattering year 2022.
Expect big ice loss due to the prolonged melt season and feedback effects

In about 4 days from now, we are going to hit the #Glacier Loss Day in Switzerland! All melting from this point onwards till next winter is unsustainable, i.e. is long-term mass loss.
This is extremely early in the season! And just a bit behind the record-shattering year 2022...

Magnitude of current heatwave is incredible!

The forecast for tuesday shows an unprecedented area with temp. > 40°C 😱

Never before has it been so hot over such a large area (and so early!) 🔥

The vertigo of having to live like this for the rest of your life...

October 2024 data is now available for both Antarctic sea-ice thickness/volume (zacklabe.com/antarctic-se...) and global sea-ice volume (zacklabe.com/global-sea-i...) from GIOMAS

Last month's global sea-ice volume was a record low for the month of October. This continues the stretch of new records
Global: Sea-Ice Concentration/Extent/Thickness
NOTE: Trends and variability in Arctic and Antarctic sea ice are affected by very different atmospheric/oceanic/ice processes and are in opposite seasons! Caution is advised for assessing any stati…
