New evacuations have been issued for the #PalisadesFire as it has started growing rapidly again this evening. KLTA caught this fire tornado on camera.

Accurate. Most cities would do no better. My advice as a former wildfire chief IO is to self-evacuate as early as possible. Always be ready to go. Carry your gear in your vehicle at all times. I do. Have a plan for children in school and pets if you are not home. Don’t think it can’t happen to you.

After an overnight lull, winds are beginning to pick up again across the Los Angeles metro area.

The latest forecasts call for Red Flag conditions through Friday morning. Santa Ana winds again possible on Mon & Tues.

Firefighters on scanner are optimistic they can get ahead of this #sunsetfire burning in the Hollywood Hills.

They say spread has slowed. There’s been a lot of airdrops of water on it so far.

Evacuation zones: Laurel Canyon Blvd (on the west) to Mulholland Dr (on the north) to 101 Freeway (on the east) down to Hollywood Blvd (on the south).

Air support is just that. Support. Wildfires are won by ground troops. Plus, there is already a shortage of pilots and aircraft available and, last year, in BC, we saw timed out craft and crew already sitting on the ground in late spring because they had flown to limits. They cannot fly non-stop.
One person familiar with the situation said, “It looks like we are going to fight fire with aviation, not people.”

You can’t fight fire with aviation just like you can’t win wars with precision bombing. Ground troops required in both contexts.
