Today a group called @commoncause held a “nonpartisan” town hall. I learned about the possible Medicaid cuts. One side “probably 10% or admin” the other side said “how do we deal with 1.5B$ less each year in this state?”. It was truly the most worthless political event I’ve attended.

I think I like the real leader of the Democratic Party. (He's leading but maybe too far ahead for some of them to see?)
"Let's not take the soul-sucking path of sacrificing the most persecuted for that which we deem to be most popular. I know that there are transgender children right now looking out at this world and wondering if anyone is going to stand up for them and for their simple right to exist. Well, I am."

In 2021, McConnell successfully filibustered a Democratic CR ahead of a government shutdown and forced them to accept a clean one instead. What happened this week - a total cave on a totally partisan long-term funding bill - hasn’t happened in the 20 years I’ve covered Congress.

I think people are extremely on edge, and horrified by how quickly society has slipped into this banal techno-fascism, and scared about how far it will go, and that makes people brittle and impatient, and if I were a better person I would extend grace to people because of that, but, you know, I’m me

Education isn’t a business transaction. Students aren’t clients, degrees aren’t products, faculty aren’t team members or corporate family. University faculty exist to reveal the universe and in doing so force muscles to stretch and strain and grow in our students before they go static forever.

I work at a mid sized state university in a state that on paper highly values education. This notion that college is career prep is the only thing we hear from our exploding administration. I’m inches from leaving all together, my research my tenure and all left behind, because of this mentality.
This all sounds horrible. One area where I have expertise and that is completely wrong-headed is this portion:

“Postsecondary education should be a path to a well-paying career aligned with workforce needs.”

College is NOT about workforce needs.
SCOOP: Now that Linda McMahon is confirmed/sworn in as secretary, Trump will be imminently issuing an executive order eliminating the Department of Education.

I’ve obtained a draft of an email that McMahon will be sending to staff re: the EO and the department’s “final mission”.

Here is a portion:
