So I finally rolled out the new peteskerritt.com website today-- moving from Wix back to WordPress. It's been a slower day in the office, so I've had some extra time to write a couple of things and get them posted.

While I can't/won't guarantee update schedules, this is where my writing will go.

Personal gaming stories and retro game collecting from the original PlayStation to the Wii.

40+ hours on this version of Final Bar Line alone. I put another 30 hours into the PS5 version (back when I was using the console in 2023).

At the risk of sounding lame, I still find myself enjoying the Call of Duty campaigns (Modern Warfare 1-3, World at War, Black Ops 1). Popcorn/blockbuster first-person shooting. Nothing deep, just a ridiculous ride.

I suck at these, but I find advancing the story to be enjoyable.

The Dorito Pope cares only about building his little gaming media fiefdom on the backs of other people's work. At the end of the day, he's a textbook narcissist who worries more about himself, his perception, and his platform.

I feel bad for the cult of followers who still defend this person.

The day before Thanksgiving is for powering through Streets of Rage 2 on Mania while network maintenance and updates are underway.

I'm very much taking in the peace and quiet that comes with not having teachers and students in the building. While I do very much miss having these days off, as I did as a teacher, they're also days of calm and centering in this role.

AAA(A) games take about 10 years to develop now, so it's on schedule.

Zelda and Metroid are two series that I really don't care for all that much in their typical forms. But Hyrule Warriors and Metroid Prime Pinball are games that I will absolutely, 100% play.
the obsession with shiny new games is crazy, a bunch of people are gonna play Metroid Prime 4 without having touched the most essential one before and that disgusts me

Just turned off the sleep schedule/alarm for the next few days. Not that it matters much, as my stupid ass will still be awake at 5am, but at least I won’t have the stress of knowing I’ve got to hustle through pre-commute/commute crap for a spell.

Finally— the crown jewel of the Ninja Gaiden NES trilogy is unleashed onto NSO. The Dark Sword of Chaos has a reasonable difficulty (unlike the other two games) and arguably has the best powerups.

I’m excited (but have to be up at 5am, so I’ll have to wait.)
NES and GameBoy Classics added to NSO:

NES:
-Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos
-BATTLETOADS

Game Boy:
-Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters
-BIONIC COMMANDO

Shadows of the Damned has not lost its charm. I played this for review on the Xbox 360 14 years ago— playing it now at 60 frames per second on a modern console, revisiting the game for the first time since, is pretty effing cool.

Expedition 33 is one of those games that I probably would’ve bought long before now if it wasn’t for being reminded of the parry and dodge stuff— which, for me, is an automatic disqualifier. I have no doubt that it’s a good game, based on how many people enjoy it, but parry/dodge = not for me.

Rap Sheet starting fights up in here *before* turkey and fisticuffs. As someone who does not eat pie, I take no sides.
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

I don't see Downhill Domination talked about a lot, and that's a shame-- though that probably means it qualifies for "hidden gem" status. It's a very cool game... a bit over the top at times, but we liked that kind of thing in 2003.
A trailer for 'Downhill Domination' on the PlayStation 2.

I was right about absences today-- but it was even higher than I thought (>15% of students out).
I saw lots of empty school bus stops and buses driving by them this morning. I can kind of see why some districts/states turn the week of Thanksgiving into a full week off for students/teachers. If I had to guess, I'd think our school would see more than 10% of students absent today.

Yeah, there was a brief window where Dick Tracy was THE SHIT. (As opposed to "No shit, Dick Tracy.")

Again, I'm getting AVGN flashbacks. Hearing James refer to him as "Dickard" still makes me laugh out loud.
