Video game player since 1976. Likes to talk about video games from arcades to modern day. Specializes in sports video games from the past. Probably quote-posts a bit too much.
40+ hours on this version of Final Bar Line alone. I put another 30 hours into the PS5 version (back when I was using the console in 2023).

The best character name ever, and that's a fact-- STICK BREITLING.

Strategy guides for Ace Combat over the years, from 1997-2006.

This remains one of my favorite series of games, of all time. Even with the only-kinda-holds up Air Combat release and the gimped version of Ace Combat 3 we got here in the US.

To have all of these guides is a nest nod to the past.

Stirring up trouble by wearing a Sonic hat and a Super NES hoodie. Console wars? Not this old man!

It’s possible that at least one of these ads will be stuck in your head now.

They all hit me this morning.

Looking at my library, there are a few possible collecting goals for 2026:

— 1,200 PlayStation games
— 1,000 PlayStation 2 games
— 200 Nintendo 64 games

Still thinking about it.

Three of these are new additions to my original PlayStation library— Casper, Lego Island 2 (thanks to the @caddicarus.bsky.social LEGO video for this one), and Populous.

NFL Xtreme, 989’s answer to NFL Blitz, is an upgrade to a copy I got very early on in my collecting journey.

Centipede is one of those arcade games that I often watched but rarely played when it was popular, and now I’ve been improving on in my senior years.

34K is no record for anyone but me, but shoot. I could barely break five figures as a kid.

A personal best!

As I’ve mentioned before, the rule of thumb with Pac-Man 2600 when comparing scores with the coin-op is to multiply by 10.

So, yeah— I just broke 100K!

“No. I’m not buying any more Ubisoft games.” Hey, that’s great. Meaningless, but great.

See, for every you, there’s at least a million others who will keep right on buying. Hell, they’re stoked for AI. “Bring it on!” they say.

Short-term delays and backtracks don’t define the ultimate future.

I’m hoping to write some more thoughts on the Rudolph game tomorrow, but one thing I keep coming back to is how gosh darned good I think it looks when compared to the source material.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the game, despite flaws (like the ugh-worthy camera).

There aren’t many pinball games that get me as fired up to play as this one.

Let’s

Update — Recent PlayStation Additions:

None of these are new to me, but they are all upgrades to copies that I currently have. Vagrant Story is complete (instead of a missing manual), and Incredible Crisis is in pristine shape.

After talking about Street Sk8er earlier, I was motivated to play it tonight. Forgive the lame camera setup.

The first track is almost too hard, especially for beginners. The score to pass is high, so there’s not a lot of room for error and you have to hit all of your trick opportunities.

What perfect albums came out the year you turned 16?

To earn a quarterback rating of 0.0 is quite the feat.

A fair rule of thumb for Pac-Man 2600 is that the score should really be multiplied by 10 for any comparison to the coin-op in that regard.

So I’m happy taking this score today, as a pretty awful Pac Player.

For the “Random Game Saturday” crowd, I offer this week’s submission.

This is Nectaris: Military Madness, a 1998 remake of the TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine game of the same name. As with many games in the 1998-1999 PlayStation cycle, I found this one during my time with FuncoLand.

I find the Fisherman’s Bait trilogy for the original PlayStation to be quite alluring, so I thought I’d line ‘em up for a photo.

The first game hooked me, then the crazy/exotic fish types in the Big Ol’ Bass games reeled me in.

Einhänder means “one-handed”… but I don’t know if I recommend using this officially-licensed one-handed controller to play it.

Today’s additions are… not necessarily *new*.

The matching translucent Dual Shock controller and memory card are aesthetically pleasing. I also have the matching clear combo.

WarGames and Invasion From Beyond are upgrades to copies I got when I first started collecting PSone years ago.
