It’s not ‘after a decade of living here’. The govt predicted we would get 6k care visa applicants a year. We got hundreds of thousands, with more dependants, on v low wages. How is it wrong to argue that we should think again about permanent residency applications after five years?

I live in a very high density neighborhood in Utrecht. Because there's not a huge need to store cars here, there's plenty of open public space. It's also quiet and beautiful.

We can all have so much more when we all decide everyone doesn't need a car, and elect leaders who will invest accordingly.

As always, the alternative hypothesis is that the London success in an otherwise poor economy, gives some young Brits the chance of higher incomes. It's not axiomatic that Britain is full of Londons just waiting to be released from planning and transport paralysis.
“Just under half of Britain’s very highest paying jobs were located in London 30 years ago. Today that figure is almost 75 per cent.”

Remarkable stat from @jburnmurdoch.bsky.social in this excellent column on our unbalanced economy. www.ft.com/content/eb02...

I get a lot of the same questions about pedestrian streets over and over so maybe this infographic will help.

Utrecht is an incredible city with a large and lively pedestrian zone. But I was more impressed with the day-to-day infrastructure in the neighborhoods. So much of this is low-hanging fruit. Why can't us? 1/7
Utrecht 🇳🇱 shows how vibrant streets thrive when walking and cycling are prioritized. Car parking still has a role, but it doesn’t need to be woven into every corner.

Garages on the periphery let people park, while others can walk or bike to the area, creating more space for community and business.

Everyone saying “no we can’t let the NHS use a proper joined up digital patient database, it’s all part of a plot to privatise British healthcare and sell your data” should be forced to read the dozens (hundreds?) of case studies like these www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-...

When my mum was dying last year and I was struggling to get her oxycodone, out of despair I began to make a public Google Doc of her medical records linked to a QR code. I was going to attach it to her bed for doctors to scan and read. NHS data is completely fucked (and prioritises GDPR over pain).
