So, Google plan is just to dismantle the planet and build a Matrioska Brain?
At least it's a plan to profitability, i suppose...

About that style of Golden Age sci-fi i once read that what we found outlandish, i.e. something going in a handful of years from pure academic theory to civilization-changing gizmo or weapon, was just a fact of everyday life, which is hard to parse for us living through the Great Stagnation.

I am sure I have read sci fi short stories set in this kind of war-torn dystopia
Anti-drone nets are being installed across the streets of Kherson to protect against ongoing Russian UAV attacks.

I unfortunately did not save the name of the person that here on Bluesky recommended me the Train to the End of the World #anime to me, but kudos to you. I haven't watched anything as beautiful in quite a long time. It is a surrealist fantasy slice of life anime, with strong Infinity Train vibes.

I asked to my colleague
-Your calendar is very packed. Can you schedule the cost optimization meeting, or if it's more practical, I can send you a shortlist of options and you can review them-
His answer: -Yes-

Lord: why are you testing me? I am your weakest soldier.

In Skyfall it is strongly hinted, but denied, that the baddie is Pierce Brosnan 007, after the North Korea debacle, and I think they were cowards for not running with that idea.

I still want my James Bond spinoff where his daughter is trained by Ana De Armas character, Paloma. Heck, she can be the new 007 for all I care.

At bonfire night, a bloke I don't know called Philip turns up. I look at his face and think, “He's Chilean”. Then I say to myself, 'Come on, don't be racist, and what are the chances of a friend of friends being Chilean?'

I had read around that Zoran Mamdani's mom was "an Indian film director". I didn't realise it was Golden Lion winner, Monsoon Wedding's Mira Nair.

Dick Cheney’s legacy is that he turned 9/11 from a national tragedy into a global disaster. He did so through a mixture of arrogance, stupidity and greed and blighted the last quarter century.

Oh, how I love reading deeply reasoned analysis of the electoral system for the Venetian Doge, which conveniently omit that IT FAILED AT ITS STATED PURPOSE. Not with time, not with degradation of customs, but on day one.

in the history of the 21st century, the Biden presidency will be remembered as a footnote during the long Trump era. Stephen Miller, architect of this hell, will have shaped America more, in no small part because Biden, like Obama before him, left in place the infrastructure facilitating deportation
