What the fuck is happening? How can anyone suck so bad that they join in the chorus to condemn the things they just did last week?

I have a memory that the lesser Cramps song "Bend Over, I'll Drive" had the line "Is this the way Albert Camus died?" but listening to it now, it isn't there. Is this the Mandela Effect? Did they use that line when playing it live?

Sometimes I think that old Dr. Who episode where politicians get electrocuted for making unpopular decisions wasn't such a bad idea after all

There are only three good prequels in all of cinema, and none of them are Star Wars movies.
rogue one is bad folks. i have believed this since i saw it in theaters and no subsequent rewatch has changed my mind. basically a chop job until the final sequence, which is good (for star wars)

Last night at Film Society they showed the 1951 Mexican movie Victims of Sin, starring Ninób Sevilla. It had been a long time since I'd heard audience applause for a character being a righteous badass.

There's been a lot of very sophisticated, compelling social commentary on declines in cultural literacy in recent years, but honestly it is very reasonable to just boil it down to "people no longer understand that things mean stuff"

My hot take on this is that one of the writers saying their book should be eligible because only the cover, not the contents, are AI generated is a failure of solidarity.
A new ruling on AI means the Ockhams are in the strange position of judging a book by its cover
Ockhams dump AI books from awards

This movie has problems but the best parts are outrageously good (eg, the scene in the Louvre)

Every time a new masterpiece is chosen, an existing masterpiece should be destroyed.
Whether it’s a tiny outlet or a major one, I think the entire space could pull back quite a bit on the hyperbolic pull quotes. Like how many “masterpieces” do we get a year now?

My personal gross oversimplification of politics: the left want to take from the rich and pass to the poor. The right want to take from the poor and pass to the rich. The libertarians want to take the ball, say it's theirs, and go home.

One movie talked about here is Looker, which is dismissed as silly. There's apparently reason for that. Michael Crichton said in a Starlog interview that he wrote it as a comedy, but the studio insisted that it had to be a serious thriller. Wish I could find my copy for an exact quote...

We are five years into a global pandemic that people are pretending has ended even though we all know people still getting Covid. Anyone not going to work when infectious is doing it right.

Bought the entire pallet, took it out into the Costco parking lot on one of those big flat carts and started yelling "Dude Wipes! Dude Wipes!". Men and boys ran to me in droves as I started handing out packs of Dude Wipes. And this is how I announced my campaign for Staten Island borough president.
