They pay me in woims. Books, music, movies and politics. One-time President of the VUW Muppet Club. Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai, Aotearoa. Ngāi Tahu. He/him.
Did they read a list of the kinds of things emotionally abusive people do, and mistake it for a guidebook?

As an action scene it's pretty good (for an '80s Amarican movie; hardly in the same league as The Killer or In the Line of Duty 4 from the same year), but as storytelling it's bunk.

That's everything wrong with prequels, IMO. It gives him all of his major character points - his self-righteousness, his fear of snakes, his scar, even his hat and whip - in one formative event so he can then remain inert for a couple of decades. It's basically Solo in miniature.

The song mentioned Jayne Mansfield, Ernie Kovac, Grace Kelly and Hank Williams but not Camus. I'd always thought of it as an example of The Cramps combining high and low culture... but apparently it doesn't exist!

I love Hėlène Cattet & Bruno Forzani's stuff, it's sensually overwhelming and their use of music is incredible. Can't wait to see this one.

Also, it turns out that when acting as an Ockham judge themselves they didn't fully read the judging criteria and were unaware that the award is for the entire book, not just the words.

I don't know about anyone else, but for me it also doesn't enhance the reputation of the writer who's quoted in the article. They claim 5lti be against AI for the contents of a book but don't seem bothered by cover artists becoming expendable, and are dismissive of them in general.
