Dan Ryan voting to gut parks dept funding, and now calling for them to “maximize earned revenue” is a call for working class families, especially those with young children, to shoulder the cost of our parks. That’s not just bad for Portland’s future, it’s indistinguishable from GOP policy!

Ryan says he needs "real institutional change" from the Parks department before giving them more funds.

YOU WERE LITERALLY THE PARKS COMMISSIONER. YOU MADE THIS MESS. YOU COULD HAVE MADE THOSE CHANGES.

Love having to take a break from fun Halloween stuff with my kid to send Dan Ryan an angry email telling him parks are good actually and I don’t think we should have to beg money from the rich to fund them. Related, the bathroom at our neighborhood park has been boarded up for weeks

I’m always surprised when a big pdx parks measure is on the ballot to not see more community organizing around it. Where’s our bike loud equivalent for parks? Every fellow parent I talk to is perpetually mad so many park bathrooms are always closed, why aren’t we being louder about it?

Any other Portlander get a sketchy as hell text from out of state asking to “rsvp” for an anti-ice protest? Asking for a paper trail on protesters while the feds are calling them terrorists seems…fishy.

New blog post about designing a ttrpg around my fear of doing math in front of friends! discountdungeons.blogspot.com/2025/09/math...

I’ll jump on this trend, my personal abbreviated appendix n would be:

LotR (primarily Fellowship)
Redwall & Mouseguard
The Last Unicorn (film adaptation)
Conan

Any suggestions for a Mothership module that’s a good starting point? I’ll be the GM, no one in the group has played Mothership yet, looking for a really great on-boarding experience for everyone

I've been referring to the Appx N Jam submissions as "e-zines" since they're essentially single sheet pdf booklets, but friends have gently informed me it makes me sound "like a total dweeb". What's everyone else calling them: mini-adventure, e-zine, something catchier?

Are there any ttrpgs with iron age or early medieval aesthetics/vibes?

Finished up my submission for the Appx N game jam: a Shadowdark mini-dungeon, THE ILLUSORY ACROPOLIS.

My first published ttrpg project so it’s a little bare bones but I’m quite proud of it!

Finally getting a chance to run Sailors on the Starless Sea for the first time! Suggested giving DCC a spin to my weekly 5e group and they are absolutely feral to try it!

Oh wow, goodman games really fucked up on this one, huh?

Dang, the Shadowdark book is just slightly too big to fit in my fanny pack. A real blow to “Hot OSR Summer”

Surprised more folks aren’t bringing up that WotC did almost this exact same thing at the end of 4e (D&D insider subscription service promising a 3D vtt that never materialized)

I’m phasing out my use of google docs (big tech can get fucked) and using a notebook for ttrpg design work is great!
My laziness and terrible handwriting is already making my rules documentation way more concise and I’m working much faster not messing around with document layout and just writing

Well, looks like it’s time for me to finally figure out how discord works! Thanks everyone for the suggestions on how to find a osr group!

Where are people finding osr/nsr groups to play with online? Finally at a place with parenting a toddler where I can consistently make uninterrupted time for an online game!

I know pretty much everyone’s already onboard with hating the Chiefs, but as a long-time MO hater just wanted to remind us all of this little gem www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncn...
K.C. Chiefs fans' booing moment of unity for 'ongoing fight for equality' mars NFL home opener
The “nasty, embarrassing” moment marred the Chiefs' season-opening victory.

by far my favorite insane Oregon policy is our tax kicker. Picture this: a state with underfunded infrastructure and schools and a homeless crisis with dogshit for resources regularly collects billions in taxes from rich people AND GIVES IT BACK every two years
