Writer, artist, maker, book magpie. Father and husband and part owner of a menagerie.
I often wonder where Alan Moore got the surname Bangs from in Promethea. I'm sure it was from Lester Bangs but who knows.

A fabulous explanation about the difference between human learning and AI learning.
One of the most common arguments you hear from fans of generative ‘AI’ is that it’s not plagiarizing people’s work, it’s just learning like a human learns. So I’m going to break down why that’s just not true, and why it can never be true, with the existing systems. 1/

I've been comic journalling and finally found a way of journalling that works for me.

Sat in the car on my lunch break to finish this charming, lovely little book. It really is the sweetest thing.

My hourly comic from yesterday. A six page story on how Green Arrow inspired me to learn to cook.

It was hourly comics day yesterday and having made a mess of it the last few years just trying to record my day, I thought I'd try a different approach.

It's been almost 30 years since I laid my hands on a single issue of Tom Hart's The Sands. Today I finally get to read the whole thing.

When I'm feeling stuck, creatively, I usually turn to origami. Here's a getting unstuck cat.

I have some A1 sheets of paper that occasionally turn into one off, introspective comics for my own fun. One is now in progress.

My hair is venturing into Lynchian dimensions and I'm worried my head may follow it.

“I mean, it’s just one empty cardboard box, Michael. What could it cost? $10?”

Yes. Pretty much.

Watching Star a tear Trek: prodigy. A fun show but it didn't feel like Trek until Janeway's little speech about why the crew were Starfleet in episode 9. That brought a tear to my eye and a lump in my throat

Today, I bought something I didn't know existed. A book of non-comic poetry by Spike Milligan. It is everything I hoped it would be.

Read the news. Saw the UK New Year’s Honours List and Liz Truss’ nominations. Read about Niani Finlayson (black) shot by LA Police for seeking help from domestic violence. Read about the wars, the fascists, climate-deniers, the super-rich, the ultra-poor. C’mon, 2024. Do better. Do us all better.

The Book Tour by Andi Watson deserves to be on every best of 2023 list going. I would question the legitimacy of any list that doesn't include it.
Hitchcock meets Kafka in a very British way.

A stunning piece of work. I can't even imagine a Modern film getting a poster like this
Fabulous 1932 movie poster by Gosta Aberg for the Swedish release of Harold Lloyd’s “Movie Crazy”.

Nearly 40 years ago, not long out of my teens, this book beat me and it remains one of a tiny handful I've not managed to read. I hit 60 next year and it's time for another go.

I'm going to do a series of paintings like this one, mounted and framed. The artwork is 6in by 4in.

I'm curious what people would be willing to pay.

I'd appreciate it if you'd take a moment to put in comments what you feel is a reasonable price for a painting like this.

Thanks

Pete
