Lets replace search with "AI" then! Totally logical if you ask me. Even more worth it when you know they're exponentially overtaking the airline industry in their carbon footprint.

It's not embarrassing at all. After we finally became free of a dictatorship backed by the very US gov in the 80s, we had to put together a constitution with a little more than the thoughts and prayers present in the US constitution

Or adoptive parents. Imagine the Spectator saying "they may have the adoption papers and call themselves that child's parents, but no piece of paper can alter biological reality." It would, rightly, be viewed as a truly horrible thing to say.
trans people aren't the only ones who dictate how others address them; people get married, they get PhDs, they change their name for whatever reason, there are a lot of circumstances where cis people change the way people refer to them and no one ever complains about it, because that would be mental

and for my next trick I have to convince a group of AI-enamoured execs that if you can't find something on Google, it isn't a good idea to go to ChatGPT to try strongarm an answer out of it

"it took a couple of chats, but chatgpt finally told me <prior I wanted to confirm>"

oh my god

no other industry calls the financiers by the name of the craft! If someone "works in food", we think they're a chef or a cook, not the person who cut a check for funding a restaurant! A person who works "in medicine" is the doctor or nurse, not a developer who built the hospital!

There's this evergreen joke on software development that goes something like this:

"We're done with 90% of the project. Which means we only have the other 90% left to go."

It's funny because it's true. It's also why experienced engineers are in-demand: they are the "finishers."

AI tools: not now.

Jay: I think social media should be basically common infrastructure that society gets to use and evolve it as society evolves, building a more democratic form of social media to reflect a democratic society.
