Echoes of Wisdom has a neat premise but I feel like it's quickly undermined by just giving you a sword an hour into the game.
Yeah it's limited I guess but it's pretty trivial to make a dozen smoothies that refill your sword juice and never run out.

This post is making it sound more esoteric than it really is. Level 40 is just meant to be the softcap for stats to prevent getting too overpowered. But the game checks for Bowser's level when picking the stat up table when the Bros gain a level.
It's not an unexplained mechanic, it's a bug.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Mario and Luigi's level-up stat gains are bizarrely based on what level Bowser is currently at. If he is at a "good" level, they will be several times more powerful. The game does not tell you which levels are good and which are bad.

It is very funny to me that Sephiroth in Rebirth is hardcoded to be ungrabbable. He automatically backdashes away from all grab attacks. HUGS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
