If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

The Covid inquiry’s findings are shocking but unsurprising now, so the main thing it left me thinking is that without a vaccine we wd’ve been utterly screwed. & if you worked round the clock to make a thing that saved millions of lives globally, to see that legacy trashed by anti-vaxxers…

The truth politics dare not speak. Part of the reason this is unsolvable for Lab is that it isn’t a real issue - it’s a euphemism for political discontent.

They could get immigration to zero, destroying the country in the process & it wouldn’t help, cause it’s not what ppl are actually angry about
One of the things that the “immigration debate” in the UK really reveals is how little people actually know about how other people live. So much of immigration policy fails to work, even on its own terms, because it’s trying to solve problems that mostly exist in peoples heads

These are the voters that Labour strategists have made very clear over a long period of time that they don't want any more, and it's a message that has now been heard
I've been out canvassing quite a lot in London lately. Labour's vote has absolutely evaporated.... it is quite extraordinary to go to places where Labour were on 50-60% of the vote at the last locals and find nobody, or virtually nobody, supporting them.

The phrase 'I voted Labour last time, but...

This from @stephenkb.bsky.social cuts to the heart of the matter. Does the government not understand how toxic this argument is? Do they think they can somehow weaponise it? The last governments at least had the merit not of making this kind of foul claim.

These people will keep pushing AI products they know don’t work, can’t be trusted, & are dangerous because they’ve bet their houses them. What’s going on here is the AI companies putting responsibility for the harms on the user: ‘You should have been more careful.’ What’s needed is regulation.
Maybe don’t put it at the top of every search result then?

As Labour proposes limiting the protection of the ECHR, we must remember what it was set up to do; protect us all from abuses of power by our govts.
Be v wary then of anyone calling to do that. You may not be the target now. But why shouldn’t you be next?

Everything about the current 'debate' around this is dismal, not just morally but because it is so stupid. For example:

It conflates asylum-seeking and illegal immigration (and sometimes with migration generally)

It shows no understanding of why there is AS

In order to counter Reform lies and propaganda, the government could have given people facts and defended the asylum and refugee system. Instead they've joined a populist race to the bottom. It'd be shameful for any government, but for a Labour one, it's disgusting.
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

At the time, I loved The Force Awakens. Then I loved The Last Jedi even more, in a more complex, confusing way. And then The Rise of Skywalker made me wish I’d never set foot in a cinema, or possibly even existed. But perhaps that’s just the Gen X lifecycle in a nutshell.
There are a lot of things wrong with The Force Awakens, but Leia choosing to hug Rey and not Chewie at the end has to be the worst of them.

Also racists: Let’s make sure they can never integrate by making them feel second class and permanently afraid they’ll get kicked out at the drop of a hat.

In fairness, if I were Pope, I’d like to think I’d be able to come up with an equally eloquent pretext to meet Monica Bellucci.
Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.

Not on a timer, not with conditions attached, but with a chance to grow roots.

The William Sitwell column has really upset me today. I would give anything to wave some kind of magic wand and remove my children’s allergies - for them but also, selfishly, for me.

The mental health impact of having a child at daily risk of death is - frankly - horrible. I am never relaxed.
