the climate story of the year, imo, was attacks on science
Reflecting on a year of attacks on climate science (and three other stories)
One of the defining themes of the past 11 months, and certainly one most pertinent to the climate beat, was “attacks on science and expertise,” which seem likely to continue into 2026.

Google is gobbling up some of the most prominent voices on energy policy, including @tnorris.bsky.social, @douglewin.bsky.social, and Nathan Iyer.

Here's @zeitlin.bsky.social on why that makes sense for Google's goals on both AI and emissions reduction:

John Deere got this video taken off our YouTube for two weeks. It took our lawyers reaching out to YouTube to get it back up.

The video lays out how a handful of corporations took control of the agriculture industry, bankrupting farmers and screwing us all over.

NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.

Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.

Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.

Unbelievable.

NSF is about to dismantle NCAR at Russell Vought's direction to protect the fossil fuel industry. It's hard to communicate just how much NCAR does, so let's take a look: I've never worked at NCAR, and I've worked with NCAR researchers once ever. What scientific discoveries has NCAR made possible? 👇

Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

Before the election, energy analysts said that repealing renewable energy tax credits was an "extreme" and "unlikely" scenario.

Many Democrats said the same, because Republicans would never willingly harm their own districts and constituents, who were benefiting from subsidies.

Here we are.
