The comforting tourist-brochure idea of what Italian food looks like obscures a story shaped by hunger, migration and innovation, says Alberto Grandi, author and professor of food history

This review was in the crossword this weekend. I have to cherish a (bygone) world where a movie maker could have a flop, could err, could live to create another thing for the world. We should do what we can to let all the robs Reiner flourish and tell their stories.
One of my all-time favorite clips of Rob Reiner, from his Friars Club Roast in 2000, as he reads aloud Roger Ebert's infamous scathing review of his movie North. The man had an amazing sense of humor about himself. RIP.

That means there’s no staff to alert you if your pacemaker is recalled

If an implantable device in your body is toxic or broken

The wealthiest 10% of Americans now account for nearly half of all spending—the highest level since 1989.

Meanwhile, lower-income Americans face stagnant wages and the rising cost of essentials.

So naturally Republicans gave billionaires and corporations trillions in tax breaks.

For the record.

My posts were not even about Kirk directly, but about America's apathy towards political violence, and the coddling of white male shooters and hate peddlers.

I was fired because I mentioned race: white men and violence-- that was my "gross misconduct."

Sooknanan starts off by asking Ensign if he's aware that she just entered a new TRO on the docket to bar the removal of the putative class of minor children.

He says no, he's not.

She asks him to take minutes to circulate that order to his clients.

We're in recess for 5 min while he does so.

the crisis in which the University of Chicago is now engulfed -- one entirely of its own making, and which has led to the (hopefully temporary) suspension of admissions into numerous PhD programs in the humanities -- represents I think a seismic event in the history of American higher education

Trump doesn't seem to see that some people are still immune to his threats.

Jack White criticized Trump's Oval Office decor. The White House then called White a "washed-up, has-been loser... masquerading as a real artist." And White, undeterred, posted an absolutely blistering takedown in response.

5. In short, the problem is rooted in the belief among elite Democrats that they can compromise with bad actors who in turn are motivated by that compromise to be worse. Even shorter, if you accept as true the lies told by fascists, you have two enemies: them and you.

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

Bolton’s home raided, Gen. Kruse fired, Epstein coverup proceeds, seizure of 10% of Intel another step towards state capitalism. Just one day in the somewhat chaotic but directionally purposeful march towards…despotism.

Does anyone think they’re doing all this so they can hand over power in 2028?

ICE, DC Police, Park Police, DHS, and HSI brutally arrested a man who refused to provide identification after being stopped for eating in public. Goons attempted to stop community members from recording his injuries during the incident.
