I don't watch #EastEnders very often but I've been dipping in and out of the Nigel storyline and this evening's ep has been incredibly affecting. EastEnders is never afraid to play with the conventions of soap and TV drama, and often knocks it out of the park - and has done so here. Beautifully done

Don't they run focus groups or something? I mean, it's OK to change your mind and accept when something's a crazy idea but not so often and defo not on the big stuff. Next time, maybe ask ChatGPT 'what might happen if we...'. Ffs.
Latest in what is becoming a not insignificant list of u-turns from govt incl on winter fuel, welfare cuts, now IHT for farmers…

Not in itself a bad thing, if original policy decision was problematic, but does raise questions about political judgements.

Which is his age range. He's an idiot.
It's actually millennials who are apparently most vulnerable to scams, but sure, let's have a bit of ageist stereotyping anyway www.moneymarketing.co.uk/news/millenn...
Given that older adults are most susceptible to online scams and misinformation, I think what we really need is a Boomer Online Safety Act, or BOSA.

also, I will reiterate my very firm view that we should absolutely not make policy based on vibes from single-issue pressure groups/victim groups.

what's so frustrating about this is not the protest as such - sure, you do you, this is free speech - but that it ruins the day for other visitors, and also will prob make getting into big attractions that much more tedious with more intrusive security. And someone else has to clear up the mess, too

I think it's one of the very few things in life comparable to a novel - with different acts, a specific setting, character arcs that rise and fall, the beginning may end up being nothing like the end

i'm assuming, based on no knowledge whatsoever, that part of the issue would be the cost charged by councils for use of curbside parking. Am crossing fingers that @london.gov.uk sees this as a significant issue to be resolved. 650k users in the UK (maj in London) is a lot of owned cars off the road.
The news that Zipcar is folding at the end of the year is deeply dismaying. The car club availability was at the heart of our decision to abandon car ownership around five years ago. Do share your reccs for other car club services (covering south London).

Agree.
This story is starting to make me feel I’m going slightly mad - maybe RR overdid the gloom, but the tax rises are paying for a) the welfare U-turns b) the £10bn-plus increase in headroom c) scrapping the two child limit d) bits of other spending eg higher local gov costs 🤷🏻‍♀️
