I’m on the subway from my hotel to Brooklyn to watch a gig. A guy called ‘Anton the Bum’ got on and performed a song. Three people on the carriage paid him and offered kind words. A producer gave him a business card. New York, in most of my experiences, is a kind place of instinctive solidarity.
