I shouldn't have to say this, but if you've ever written anything and had it published, even on a blog or online site, it doesn't have to be NYT or Rolling Stone, you can call yourself a professional writer. I've been working my ass off for 8 years and I've learned a lot.

Because it's always worth repeating - if you've enjoyed a book, tell your friends about it, shout about it (reviewing and ratings help as well). Word of mouth is more significant than you think, especially for indie/small press authors, whose sales are often low to begin with.
