📷 This NASA/ESA #Hubble Space Telescope image shows galaxy LEDA 22057. It features a supernova explosion, visible down and to the right of the galactic nucleus. The 'pale blue dot' of SN 2024PI stands out against the galaxy’s spiral arms.

Ever looked up and spotted a twinkling gem? That’s Capella, just 42 light-years away, made up of not one, but two giant stars locked in an eternal dance! It’s one of the brightest stars in our night sky! #astronomy @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

100 years ago today, #OTD in 1925, Edwin Hubble announced that Andromeda and other spiral nebulae were definitely separate galaxies outside the Milky Way, in a paper read to an AAS meeting by H.N. Russell.

There was no doubt that the Universe was more than just our little island of stars. 🧪 🔭 ⚛️

On this day (Dec 30) 100 years ago, humanity's view of the universe completely changed!

Edwin Hubble announced the discovery that Andromeda was another Galaxy, and it sits *beyond* our Milky way. We figured out the Milky way is one of billions of galaxies. 🌌🔭#Astronomy #History

When a partial meltdown of Ontario's Chalk River Nuclear Power Plant occurred in 1952, one of the 150 Americans brought in to help dismantle the parts of the reactor was Jimmy Carter.
He was lowered into the reactor in 90 second shifts, which was enough time to remove one bolt.
