Just a nerd for books and TV shows.
Rereading classics (that are so rich in detail & themes, thought-provoking) and old favorites is such a great idea. I've thought about rereading some of Moby-Dick, Hamlet, A Tale of Two Cities, and the Divine Comedy lately. I'll take a closer look at this list in the article. #cozywinterreads

This series is so fun, omg! The storytelling & mystery are absolutely engaging and immersed me in the world immediately, and the performances are all absolutely entertaining to watch. ⚔️🪄🧝🧙🐻🦡🐒🐦🐀

Is there a streaming service that has a lot of old films? I want to see famous classics, especially with leading men like Humphrey Bogart, Gregory Peck, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, etc.
Humphrey Bogart, Elisha Cook Jr. "THE MALTESE FALCON" (1941) dir. John Huston

This is also one of those books I've dreaded for perceived difficulty & length (and all those Russian names to remember), but seeing that other ppl have read it inspire me to pick it up sometime. For classics/literary fiction, just take it one page at a time! #books
My 3rd favorite book in 2025 is very different from number 4:

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

This was on my list of classics that I’m reading through, and to be honest I was kind of dreading it. I thought it was going to be a very difficult read but it was SO good. Who knew! 😉

Books, poems, film, etc. may require retraining a brain to slow down.

And it's important bc while scrolling social media pushes the happy button, it rarely provides actual happiness. It's like food with no nutrients; your brain ate a lot but it's still starving for things that scrolling can't give.

only two things motivate fanfiction:

1) canon so good you want more of it
2) canon so terrible you need to fix it

The Greeks absolutely had it right when they included a chorus in their plays. They knew audiences are dumbasses who need to be told “THIS MAN IS BAD. HE IS HERE AS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT *NOT* TO DO. WOE TO THE BUMPTIOUS FOOL WHO WOULD IDOLIZE HIM. YOU ARE NOT, NOR DO YOU WANT TO BE, ALEX DELARGE”

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved.

We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

If you really want to encounter a lot of views different from your own, go read some books. You don’t need right wing assholes screaming at you on social media for that. This can just be a place where you chill.

I’m convinced the “do audiobooks count as reading?” argument all derives from those mid-90s summer reading pizza challenges.

Folks - we’re all in our 30s and 40s now. It’s no longer a competition.

Go buy your favorite pie with your adult money and let people enjoy books however they want.

I relistened to most of Bo Burnham's Inside for the first time in years, and boy is it still so relevant in late 2024.

Every time I'm reminded that Moana 2 is coming out this month, it gives me flashbacks to when the first one released almost exactly 8 years ago in November 2016, paired w/ the disbelief that T***p won over such a promising female candidate. So, is time is circular or something??
