I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

I teamed up w/ @usatoday.com to calculate how much of Arizona would be off limits if it passes.

A: 90%

Within 30 minutes of exploring a new raw dataset provided to me, I have discovered the following things:

1. Duplicate participants
2. Impossible values outside of allowable ranges for variables
3. Categories inconsistently coded in a variable

Moral of the story, always check your data. 🌟

Encyclopædia Britannica will continue to use ‘Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons:

-We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S.

-The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous.
