Definitely not a raccoon trying to cram itself into a tree so it can't see you.
It has been a three day adventure trying to get to the big kid to help her move back to college from her co-op on the East Coast. Today I am appreciating the Frederick Douglass International Airport. Cozy napping chairs, quiet employees taking breaks, kind chill Dunkin employee, you ROC.

Creek update: once again, my head has been identified as the ideal target for a territorial blackbird. I am thinking about calling this one Durga. Or possibly Karen the Bridge Troll.

Four year divorciversary today. Not sure whether this is tin, copper, paper or candlesticks, but, you know. I made it and I think that means something, even if it's a private ceremony:)

A fascinating hero! Know our history!

Today in history, 1862: Robert Smalls, an enslaved person and ship’s pilot, takes over the CSS Planter, an armed Confederate transport. Smalls steered it past Confederate defenses and surrendered it to the Union Navy, while also freeing himself, his crew and their families. /1

Current problems mostly related to staff shortages. Some balloons aren’t getting launched. Some forecast offices can’t operate 24 hrs/day.

But, the real nightmare isn’t inaccurate weather forecasts. It’s going to be: “impossible nowcasts”. What’s a “nowcast”( glad you asked, read next thread…🧵
Did you check the weather forecast today? That forecast was built on a massive government-run network of sensors and computers.

Thanks to Trump, they are getting much, much worse.

This is happening today. There are call scripts in the post.
I need you to make calls to Congress because on Tuesday, the House Committee responsible for Medicaid is meeting to slash funding for Medicaid—the health program 80 million Americans rely on, the health program that has kept me alive.

This piece is not paywalled, it is not locked—please share it.

On this day 163 years ago Robert Smalls and those enslaved aboard the steamer Planter emancipated themselves under seemingly impossible odds. On May 13, 1862 they lived their first day free from bondage.

Their story continues to inspire countless people to this day.

FB recommended that I friend Dan Quayle today and that seems as good a summary of the current world order as any. There's nothing left to do but stay in the game and keep fighting for my sanity and human dignity in every way I can.

My daughter’s speech therapist went out of business because Medicaid reimbursement rates were too low. We do not have Medicaid. I’m going to keep posting this until people understand that when Medicaid gets cut *everyone* loses services.

“Unfortunately, right now, it looks like the polluters won.”

Experts say that the mass of scientists being forced out of the EPA will slow down any future regulation of chemicals.
The EPA Will Likely Gut Team That Studies Health Risks From Chemicals
Reorganizations at the EPA may get rid of the agency’s fundamental program for research around the risks of toxic chemicals.

When I was signing people up for the first round of COVID vaccines, it was having choices that got them through the door and vaccinated. It was vaccinations that allowed us to get back to work and school. RFKJr taking choice away to grift feels like a full on body slam.
