Deutsch sein geht so: Ein Problem erkennen, von allen Seiten bewundern, die Hände in die Hüften stemmen und kundtun, dass man jetzt eigentlich sehr grundlegende Veränderungen bräuchte, um diesem Problem Herr zu werden. Dann umdrehen und weitermachen wie bisher.

This is so important. People who study international relations love to fight over whether interests or values define relationships. It is both. An interest is something you define. And your values come into the equation. It is not either or.
What Trump has made me realise is how much the post-Cold War relationship hinged on shared values rather than shared interests. Trump is illustrating how, whether on Ukraine and Gaza, our interests diverge and, absent those values, there's not much holding us together.

Alleine die Tatsache, dass es unklar ist, ist wieder ein Sieg für 🇷🇺 im Propagandakrieg. Man wirft was hin, alle laufen schnatternd durch die Gegend, und später traut wieder niemandem irgendwem und man hat wieder Vertrauen in Medien und Politik zerstört.

Alleine die Tatsache, dass es unklar ist, ist wieder ein Sieg für 🇷🇺 im Propagandakrieg. Man wirft was hin, alle laufen schnatternd durch die Gegend, und später traut wieder niemandem irgendwem und man hat wieder Vertrauen in Medien und Politik zerstört.

Wenn Putin clever ist, stimmt er dem Plan, so wie er ist, zu. Lehnt ihn die UKR ab, ist der Schwarze Peter bei ihr, Trump stellt die Unterstützung ein und Europa kann/will alleine nicht unterstützen. Stimmt Zelensky zu, explodiert die Lage in der UKR. Wir können nur hoffen, das Putin zu gierig ist.

This has been Trump's intention from the start. All he wants is to pursue US (and personal) economic interests in Russia, and Ukraine is currently an obstacle to being able to do this. So the 'Ukraine obstacle' - in his mind - has to be removed and/or neutralised.
The whole draft agreement is full of economic sweeteners for the US and focused on the future development of US-Russia economic ties. This is what Trump keeps coming back to when he talks about the end of the war, so is presumably aimed at keeping him happy.
