Everyone imitates Tolkien all the time except when it comes to the one way it would really matter: making the protagonist of your novel for children a short, fat, 50-year-old man who doesn't want to do anything.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Look everyone! Something good today!
Bluesky you deserve some fireflies in a cornfield. Not pictured-the young hawk chased away by robins, the enormous kale after the rain, the smell of the tomato plant leaves.

Trump is going to “instinctively” select certain US companies and exempt them from tariffs.

Don’t overthink it.
He’s asking for bribes.

I grew up with labradors and beagles who loved to try to escape and run for the hills, forcing us to chase them.

This evening I distractedly tried to walk Sophie into the yard without putting her leash on and she refused to step outside, like “excuse me, while I’d love to go out with you, I cannot”
By the way my dog’s actual name is Sophie but she also answers to any variation of the theme “you’re perfect and the best thing that’s ever happened to me”

They’re gloating

@schumer.senate.gov owns this
Two Republican senators told me tonight this vote shows they can execute the same strategy again — cut Democrats out of the negotiations on a gov’t funding bill, pass it thru the House, and expect Senate Dems to back down and not filibuster it.

“We liked it over here,” one said.

Primary Every Democrat
It’s exhausting to watch poll-tested, donor-beholden congressional Democrats continue to be too old, too cloistered, and too bumbling to do anything as the government burns.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.
