Blackbuck are the smallest antelope at Fossil Rim! Calves are particularly tiny, and depending on gender, will only average between 50 and 80 pounds when full grown!

Our addax herd are getting their winter coats! Despite being a desert species, addax hair changes with the seasons, getting lighter in the summer and darker in the winter. These colors help them reflect and retain heat respectively based on their environment!

Arabian oryx are one of the smaller oryx species, but they make up for it with their impressive horns. These horns begin growing at birth, and can reach over two feet in length! 🧪🌍

Cheetahs don't roar- instead they communicate through chirps, purrs and growls. Mothers use these methods to let their cubs know where they are, and to give them other cues.

Zebra stripes really are unique to the individual. One member of our herd sports this lovely, leaf-like pattern on their rump. The randomness of these stripes helps confuse predators and protect the zebra. 🧪🌍

It’s Raka’s 26th birthday 🎂! Raka was born at Fossil Rim to M’bili, and has lived her whole life as one of the stars of our white rhino herd! Wish this lovely lady a day full of mud puddles and delicious hay! 😋
