We have very few reliable, communal safety nets in the U.S. That doesn't speak to us as individuals but more about the state of our country. A wildfire will devastate anywhere in the world, but in some places, it doesn't mean you might starve like here.
LA fires are a good reminder that the only difference between me and any refugee is luck.

If you want to understand that no, Mark Zuckerman isn't some harmless money-grubbing schmuck, go read the truly shocking "Mindf*ck: Cambridge Analytica And The Plot To Break America" by whistleblower Christopher Wylie. You will have trouble sleeping after reading this book.

I'm in Houston Intercontinental Airport. An alarm has been blaring for the past 5 minutes along with a seizure-inducing flashing light. Everyone -- including airport workers -- is pretending nothing is happening. This kind of torture makes me think I'm stuck in a bad life simulation.
