Sometimes I look around me and think: I don’t think any of us, not a one of us, has the right heuristics for when to cede epistemic authority in an information ecology such as this.

I met President Higgins a few times when I was at University College Dublin, since he supported multiple efforts of ours, including the Irish Young Philosopher Awards. I was impressed by how he would not only take the time to engage with the school children, but how much they obviously liked him.
This is just a Michael D. Higgins appreciation post. A truly wonderful President of Ireland, and a man with great taste in books. Wishing him all health and happiness (and time to read) in his retirement! @communitywealth.bsky.social

I am advertising two PhD positions in philosophy -- one for a domestic student, one for an international student. Both positions are 1 + 3 years, meaning that the first year is an MRes and the next three years are for the PhD.

So happy to share our article Industrial Distraction is officially published at PHOS! I'm really proud of this one. We show how real but distracting information - like that exercise can reduce diabetes risk - is used by industries like Coca Cola to convince the public their product is safe

Agent: why are you here?
Me: I’m a Professor, going to give a talk.
Agent: what area?
Me: political philosophy
Agent: my favourite subject.
Me: really?
Agent: no, I say that to all the Professors. Seems to make them happy.
