"Google says it's no different than checking IDs at the airport."

Sure. If the airport was your house. That you own. And the IDs they were checking was your furniture, appliances, and food to make sure it is Google™ approved. And also they charged a 30% tax on everything you purchased.

Broadly speaking, if you're trying to get people excited about your product by describing it as "pervasive", you're probably bad at marketing.

"PhD-level experts in your back pocket" is a completely nonsensical description of AI but a pretty good description of social media if you follow the right people

17 Pages on @nebula.tv was incredible. There's a twist I won't spoil, but: it doesn't work properly on the Nebula Android TV app. I'll just say the channel state after finishing the video, and checking my sub feed afterwards, doesn't work as I'd expect. Had to check the channel page again manually.

It was a good week for podcasts. Learn about preserving lost media by listening to @hyperfixedpod.bsky.social and then learn about hope by listening to in particular the last segment of @onthemedia.bsky.social

Only one episode in, but if you're zero episodes in this is a pretty compelling argument. At least the apocalypse has some really great TV.

Fear of panic and trying to prevent panic drive way too much in public health. Your job is not to keep people calm, it's to keep people healthy.

If an #H5N1 pandemic starts tomorrow or in three months, there will be little mystery as to how it happened. The conditions are all there. They have been for a while.
So in some ways the more interesting question to me at the moment is: Why aren’t we in a pandemic yet?
Story here, 🧵 to come:

Why hasn’t the bird flu pandemic started?
Some scientists examining mutations found in H5N1 viruses fear major outbreak is imminent but others says pathogen remains unpredictable
