Self-diagnosis of mental illness/neurodiversity based on TikTok/memes is a problem because of how widespread it is, but part of it is because it’s paired with people thinking the world around them should accommodate them rather than learning how to navigate the world within limitations 1/?

Y’all know that brown people have been subject to arbitrary arrest and detainment, right? We’ve been saying for years that liberals will care when white people were threatened to be treated the same way brown people have been for centuries. That’s going down now, y’all need to acknowledge that.

DEI is like the response the civil rights movement with things like welfare that aim to shut people up without causing any change to the power structure. That’s what Democrats have always been about. The answer isn’t more representation in the system, it’s a new system that doesn’t need DEI 2/2

Hot take: the fact that it’s so easy to scrub women/POC/LGBTQ history from government websites is further evidence that it was always tokenism. Power has always been in the hands of white men and it will always be that way under the current system. 1/2

I keep seeing fingers pointing sideways (or down) trying to find who’s to blame for the shitshow going on right now. The blame always goes up. We need class solidarity and unity, not moral superiority and pettiness. What’s done is done. Moving forward together is the only option now.

I have no idea how they would even have this data. They might have data that says the majority of people fighting in the Civil War were poor, but that's the case for basically any modern war. They couldn't possibly know their motivations. 1/?

Remember that the ruling class is doing all it can to keep the rest of us divided. The responsibility to prevent that is on everyone. Trumpies are victims just like the rest of us. It’s important to meet people where they are and point out the exploitation to try to get them on your side.

Welfare was the same in the 60s. The Johnson administration wasn’t interested in racial equality, they were interested in maintaining power and staving off radical political change.

I think this sentiment kinda misses the point. There are human beings that ARE illegal and that’s the problem: the laws. No human being SHOULD be illegal, but when the state uses the legal system to impose its will, then that’s what ends up happening.

I ran my dad’s business account and I didn’t have any dumb follows. I hadn’t logged into it in forever since he died and it still was following both accounts. This gives the media an excuse to stop talking about what is an unprecedented level of collusion between corporate power and the state.
On Tuesday, the day after the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump, many Instagram and Facebook users on the Meta platform found themselves automatically following Trump.

Meta claims it was part of a “regular process” in the social media accounts switch over. 👀 apnews.com/article/face...

Spotify donated 1.7 million kroner to Trump’s inauguration and hosted a party featuring Ben Shapiro & Tim Pool. These companies and mega-rich CEOs don’t care about the workers who make their companies run, they care about cozying up to Trump’s oligarchical power.

If you know anyone who says this is not what it looks like, you can say “either you believe that and you’re stupid, or you don’t and you’re a liar that’s 100% OK with fascism. Which is it?” That’s the line I plan on using.

It’s important to realize that if you’re not trans, particularly if you’re a cishet man like I am, you are going to have to fight for your trans loved ones. We’re gonna have to do more than react. Voting and sharing isn’t gonna cut it. People you love are in danger and that should piss you off.

Look it would be great to think that right wingers can be convinced of anything by explaining to them that MLK was a communist and a radical anti-racist but it doesn’t matter.
Happy MLK Day!

A friend: “this is how abusers behave. Take something you like away so that you rejoice when they give it back when it was them that took it away in the first place. They said “no healthcare but we’ll take your lil app away JK we saved it You’re welcome. Don’t ask for more or we’ll give you less!!!”

Something worth thinking about: if someone’s only interaction with the US was an app that:
-made you pledge allegiance before you signed up
-was used almost exclusively by relatively well-off people
-didn’t allow politics
Would you have an accurate picture about what life was like here from that?

Cool so instead of the Chinese government having your data, the US government will. I don’t know how anyone that’s not a bootlicker would think that’s better.

When people are against fur, but OK with leather, it’s wild to me. I just heard an argument that forcing weasels to live in a farm setting is cruel. I guess factory farms for cows are OK for some reason?

I'm amazed at the extremity of backlash against the TikTok ban and how badly people want to keep this one specific platform.

I'm amazed because when you had a LiveJournal and a MySpace and a Friendster and a Vine in your 20s/30s, you don't really *expect* permanence in platforms
