We should demand systemic change for things that make our disabilities worse (capitalism, etc), not put that responsibility on individuals. We should respect others’ need to navigate the world also, because “neurotypical” doesn’t exist. We need to request kindness but also exhibit it 6/6

Social media around neurodiversity is often “how to treat people with X” and I feel like those videos are being used to say “how people should treat me because I have X” which is wrong. I don’t use mental illness as a weapon to always get my way and others shouldn’t do that either. 5/?

I want those around me understand me but don’t feel obligated to bend over backwards to accommodate me. My disabilities aren’t their problem and I don’t demand special treatment from everyone because of them. I only ask for patience while I work hard to impact them as little as possible 4/?

Mental disabilities are harder to see, but we also should rely first on ourselves to do things to cope with the world and not expect to be always treated special or accommodated. I have both bipolar and attention disorder and I’ve had to arrange the way I do things to limit how those affect me 3/?

People with mental disabilities can learn lessons from people with physical disabilities who are constantly having to adapt to a world that’s hostile to them. They use adaptive technology (wheelchairs, hearing aids, etc) and learn how to use other body parts to do things (eat with feet, etc) 2/?

It’s interesting to remember how quiet y’all were when Democrats were tearing families apart and putting babies in cages. Now that college students are under threat to be treated the same way it’s a problem. But I guess all those brown children were breaking the law so it was OK.

I still think it's pretty disingenuous to suggest that any opinions expressed in the media of the time is representative of all or even most of the fighters. You're always going to get bias based on the people who were interviewed and you might have less-interesting quotes that weren't recorded.

They aren't bad people, they are misguided. Blaming them is NOT what we need to be doing, we need to be blaming the ruling class that is lying to these people and causing them to behave the way they are. 5/5

This kind of thing is victim-blaming and is counterproductive today. Southerners were manipulated by their leaders to believe fighting in the war was to their benefit. We are currently dealing with a population who is motivated by the same kind of fear and manipulated by the same kinds of people.4/?

If they fought to keep slavery intact, it was because they couldn't envision a situation where slavery was abolished and that they would be able to survive. 3/?

In basically every war fought between civilian populations, people are fighting either for perceived immediate threat to their lives or for benefits offered to them by their governments. In this case, poor Southerners were told that the North was invading and would disrupt their way of life. 2/?

“Us vs them” isn’t us vs reactionaries, it’s all of us against the ruling class. Getting angry at regular people who have been duped and trying to rub it into their faces is not helpful to anyone. Save that anger for the oppressors and the actual Nazis. Your embarrassing uncle isn’t the problem.

Liberals will always distract you from the goal and tell you they’re on your side, but it’s always a ruse to prevent you from paying attention to the real problem: capitalism and the state

Calling someone “an illegal” is absolutely a racist slur and should be called out. If someone you know uses that word, let them know that
January 30, 2025 at 3:07 AM
The fallacy here is that “legal” means good and “illegal” means bad, and that’s simply not what those words mean. Legal is what the state will allow and illegal is what it won’t. Putting moral values on those words lets the state decide who is good and who is bad and that’s not how it should be.
